Lead your group

Everything a leader needs, in the order you will need it.

Step 1

Start your group

  1. On the first screen, tap I am starting a group. Already in the app? Go to Settings → Start another group.
  2. Give it a name, like “Tuesday nights”.
  3. Tap Create the group. You are its leader.

Step 2

Join your church

Your church admin gives you a code for group leaders.

  1. Open Settings → Manage your group.
  2. Under Church, type the code in Have a code from a church? and tap Check it.
  3. Read what joining means, then tap Join.
  4. Turn on List us in the directory so people at your church can find you. You still decide who gets in.

Step 3

Bring people in

Nobody gets into your group unless you say yes.

  1. Invite from the directory: pick anyone in your church and tap Invite. They decide whether to join.
  2. People can also find your group and tap Ask to join. You will see people waiting to join. Tap Approve or Not now.
  3. Someone not in your church yet? Share Your church’s code from group settings. Once they join the church, they can ask to join your group.

Step 4

Name a co-leader

A group always keeps at least one leader. A second one means the group is never stuck if you step away.

  1. In group settings, find the person under Members.
  2. Tap Make leader.

Step 5

Plan a gathering

  1. Open Calendar and tap + Event.
  2. Fill in What is it, the day and Starts at. Pick Weekly under Repeats if it happens every week.
  3. Add where you meet, then anything to prepare: Pick a passage, Pick a lesson from Thread, or a video under Watch before coming.
  4. Tap Post it. Everyone can say I’m in or Can’t make it.

Step 6

Notice who needs you

Emberside only looks at things people do in the open: coming, saying yes, asking for prayer, praying, posting. Never app opens or read receipts.

  1. On Home, tap the card that says Your 12 people. The number is how many are in your group.
  2. It shows who has gone quiet, and why.
  3. Tap I’ve got this when you are on it. They leave your list for two weeks.

Step 7

See how gatherings went

Counts only, never names. Only your group’s leaders see this, and your group is told it exists.

  1. After a gathering, open it and mark Who came?
  2. Go to Calendar → Past → How your gatherings went.
